Dandruff Treatment

Dandruff Treatment

Dandruff is a common and harmless scalp condition that causes small white flakes of skin to fall from the scalp. These flakes can often be seen in your hair or on your shoulders, which can feel a bit embarrassing even though it isn’t anything serious. While dandruff doesn’t hurt, it can make your scalp feel itchy and leave you feeling self-conscious. At PharmXtra, we offer a range of effective dandruff treatments to help reduce flaking, calm irritation, and keep your scalp feeling clean and healthy.

More Information

Dandruff is a common scalp condition where small flakes of skin fall off your scalp. It can make your head feel itchy and uncomfortable. Dandruff is often caused by a yeast-like fungus called Malassezia that can irritate the scalp and speed up how quickly skin cells are shed. While it's not harmful or contagious, it can feel embarrassing and affect your confidence.

Dandruff cannot be permanently cured, but it can be managed well with the right treatment and hair care routine. The aim of treatment is to reduce flakes, calm irritation, and keep your scalp healthy. With regular use of dandruff treatments, many people can keep their symptoms under control.

Yes, some natural remedies may help improve dandruff. Washing your hair regularly with a gentle shampoo can help keep your scalp clean. Ingredients like tea tree oil, aloe vera, coconut oil, and apple cider vinegar are sometimes used to soothe the scalp and reduce flakes. Keeping your hair products simple and avoiding things that irritate your skin can also help. For some people, eating a balanced diet and managing stress can make a difference too. Always speak to a healthcare professional before trying new treatments.

Dandruff treatments are designed to reduce the flakes, soothe irritation, and stop the overgrowth of the fungus that can lead to dandruff. Most treatments come as shampoos that contain active ingredients such as zinc pyrithione, ketoconazole, coal tar, or selenium sulphide. These ingredients work to calm the scalp and slow the rate at which skin cells are shed. More severe cases may require stronger medicated products recommended by a healthcare professional.

Dandruff treatments come in different forms to suit various needs. The most common are anti-dandruff shampoos, which are often used several times a week. There are also conditioners, scalp lotions, serums, and creams. Some are gentle enough for daily use, while others are stronger and used less often. The right choice depends on how bad your dandruff is and what works best for your scalp.

Most dandruff treatments, like anti-dandruff shampoos, are available over the counter from pharmacies and supermarkets. However, if your dandruff is severe or does not improve with shop-bought products, a healthcare professional might recommend prescription-strength treatments such as medicated shampoos, antifungal creams, or corticosteroids. At PharmXtra, all prescription requests are reviewed by a registered independent prescriber during an online consultation to ensure the treatment is safe and suitable for you.

I have to give Customer Service a shoutout. Unusually my parcel didn’t arrive in the 1 or 2 days. This was an issue with Yodel and unfortunately it landed during the Easter holiday. However, as soon as Customer Services were back in the office they got in touch with Yodel and my parcel was delivered the next day. I have to say that I normally get a great service from Yodel as well.
