More Information

Malaria is a serious disease spread by mosquito bites in certain parts of the world, especially in tropical regions like sub-Saharan Africa. It is caused by a parasite that enters the body through a mosquito bite. Malaria can make you feel very unwell, with symptoms such as a high fever, shivering, sweating, headaches, and tiredness. Without treatment, it can become life-threatening. If you're travelling to a country where malaria is a risk, it's important to take steps to protect yourself, including using antimalarial tablets and avoiding mosquito bites.

Yes, malaria can be cured with the right medication. Treatment works by killing the parasite in your body. Doctors usually use a type of medicine called artemisinin-based combination therapy (ACT), which is very effective when taken properly. The sooner malaria is treated, the easier it is to recover fully and avoid serious complications.

Natural remedies cannot cure malaria, but they can support your body while you recover. Eating healthy foods, drinking plenty of water, and getting enough rest can help you feel better. Some herbal products are used in traditional medicine, but they should never replace proper antimalarial treatment. Always speak to a doctor or pharmacist before using any natural remedies to make sure they are safe and won’t interfere with your medicine.

Malaria treatment involves taking prescription medicine to kill the malaria parasite. The most common treatment is ACT, which comes in tablet form. Your doctor will choose the right medication based on the type of malaria, how ill you are, and where you got infected. If the infection is severe, treatment might be given through a drip in hospital.

Malaria medicines come in different forms, depending on how serious the illness is. Most people take tablets or capsules. In more serious cases, medicine can be given by injection or through a drip in hospital. Your doctor will decide what’s best for you based on your symptoms and medical history.

Yes, antimalarial medication needs to be prescribed by a healthcare professional. You can’t buy it over the counter without a prescription. If you're travelling to a place where malaria is common, speak to your GP, pharmacist, or travel clinic in advance. At PharmXtra, all requests for malaria prevention or treatment are reviewed through an online consultation, and a registered independent prescriber will decide if it is suitable for you.

I have to give Customer Service a shoutout. Unusually my parcel didn’t arrive in the 1 or 2 days. This was an issue with Yodel and unfortunately it landed during the Easter holiday. However, as soon as Customer Services were back in the office they got in touch with Yodel and my parcel was delivered the next day. I have to say that I normally get a great service from Yodel as well.
